I mean I get being present in the moment etc but it's also not horrible to take photos travelling either.

Sometimes photos can explain the experience better than words to ones that weren't there. Doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Completely agree, it definitely doesn't have to be all or nothing. As someone who’s been a photography enthusiast for years—messing around with all kinds of cameras and flying drones—I love capturing those moments too.

To me, sharing experiences through visuals and being mindfully present aren't mutually exclusive. There’s a huge difference between capturing a beautiful memory to share, and being dragged around by a 'photo-taking assignment' that ruins the actual trip. They can absolutely coexist; it’s all about who’s driving—you or the camera.
